چکیده

Biogenic amines serve as neurotransmitters in vertebrates and insects, and their occurrence has been reported in a number of other species of invertebrates. Among helminths, they have been isolated from the liver fluke Fasciola hepatica (9) and the nematodes Ascar# lumbricoides (10), Ascaridia galli (10), Nippostrongylus brasiliensis (1), Litomosoides carinii (12), Caenorhabditis elegans (8), and Trichostrongylus colubriformis (6,7). Adults of T. colubriformis exhibited ovipositional and ingestive responses to histamine, dopamine, octopamine, "r-aminobutyric acid (GABA), and serotonin in vitro (2,3). Ward et al. (14) reported chemotactic responses by males ofN. brasiliensis to several biogenic amines during bioassays, and Sulston et al. (13) identified dopaminergic neurons in C. elegans and Ascaris lumbricoides cytochemically via formaldehyde fluorescence. These compounds may have functions in addition to their putative ones as neurotransmitters, such as the triggering and regulation of cell divisions in early ontogenesis (5). Our interest in them is associated with research on nematode behavior and the environmental stimuli to which parasitic nematodes respond in order to complete their life cycles.

Bacteria isolated from Korean black raspberry vinegar with low biogenic amine production in wine

A high concentration of histamine, one of the biogenic amines (BAs) usually found in fermented foods, can cause undesirable physiological side effects in sensitive humans. The objective of this study is to isolate indigenous Acetobacter strains from naturally fermented Bokbunja vinegar in Korea with reduced histamine production during starter fermentation. Further, we examined its physiological...

Biogenic amines in sea products

Sea food products are being processed through various techniques, i.e. chilling and freezing, heating, irradiating, and curing; regard to the condition of processing, formation of biogenic amines are probable, as raw materials are usually rich in respective precursors. Fermented fish products are among the most vulnerable items to this challenge, these products due to their nutritious value are...

Sterol Metabolism in the Nematodes Panagrellus Redivivus, Turbatrix Acet1 and Caenorhabditis Elegans

-1. Panagrellus redivivus, Turbatrix aceti and Caenorhabditis elegans were sterilely propagated in semidefined media containing sitosterol or cholesterol, and sterols were isolated and identified by capillary gas-liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. 2. Each species was capable of removal of the C-24 ethyl substituent of sitosterol and production of 4x -methylsterols. 3. Other modifications ...

Biogenic amines determination in some traditional cheeses in West Azerbaijan province of Iran

Biogenic amines (BA) are nitrogenous compounds that possess biological activity. The source of production is the microbial decarboxylation of amino acids. This compounds are found in various types of cheese. The aim of this work was to evaluate the BA content of some traditional cheeses in West Azerbaijan province Iran. For this purpose, 70 samples of Koopeh, 10 samples of Lighvan and 5 samples...

A gonad-derived survival signal for vulval precursor cells in two nematode species

Intercellular cell-survival signals play a major role in animal development [1]. In the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans, however, the stereotyped cell deaths that occur reproducibly during development are regulated in a cell-autonomous fashion (or, in a few cases, by a death-inducing signal) [2]. We show here the existence of a cell-survival signal acting on the vulval precursor cells in two ne...
